Archaeology & History

The AAIA offers a suite of intensive on-site learning opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students during the Australian summer vacation period. Each programme is three weeks in duration and includes on-site teaching and learning. Open to students from across the country, they can be undertaken for academic credit from the lead university.  

The closing date for participation expressions of interest is 31 July prior to the programme’s commencement.

January 2026: Archaic and Classical Athens and Attica

Led by the University of Sydney, this programme focuses on the rich archaeology of Athens and its surrounding region. Not only does this include site visits in and around Athens, with behind-the-scenes access to areas of the Athenian Acropolis not open to the public, it also includes an overnight trip to Delphi.

November – December 2026: Connecting with Language and Culture in Greece

Led by La Trobe University, this programme gives insight into over 5000 years of Greek history, from the Bronze Age to the modern day. Students will travel to ancient and modern sites on the mainland and islands. The programme includes modern Greek language practice and emphasises Greece’s contemporary links with Australia through war and migration.
